Dark day for the Lion

When l was born, l took on my father’s last name, not my mother’s name. Thus wife doesn’t carry her Husband’s fathers name. She takes on whatever the Husband is called because all men are fathers. Which implies that dad is Destiny. Jesus Himself is never referred to as the ‘Son of Mary’ but rather as the ‘Son of God’. Luke 1:35

In the biblical context God intended men to be fathers; therefore, He designed them to be so and in their roles they ought to; be the source of seed, nourisher of fruit, protect the fruit, male teaches his seed among other duties.

We come to realise that their is no expiry date on the love between a father and child. Amazingly we never chose our families or siblings, God in his wisdom kept that to himself.

Am glad to have had a relationship with my biological father, who on this day joined the Angel’s.

He was a retired civil servant and attached to several clubs and groups, at village and district levels. Among these clubs was lions club, the members were always roll called per meeting, and as their custom they did a roll call at the vigil service, they called out his name, but there was no response neither apology.

This meant the Lion had returned to his creator which was very emotional time for us all and as several people came up to give speeches of the things he had attained while on this earth. I kept reflecting on this activity the Lions club had done; and drawing back the picture to us, how many times has God called us and how have we responded to his call or simply kept quiet?

Today as l celebrate the life of a great dad, whose identity l carry, as a Lioness, l am glad he allowed us to worship and serve the Greatest Fathers of all.

Before roll call is done kindly purpose to make an effort while still on earth to make each day count for your wife, children, people you serve with, because we life once and once is enough if we do it well.

May God be your source of strength as you lead as a father, husband, community elder, and King.

Tool Box

In my last blog l promised to continue with safety tips, and am on to it, these are a few kind reminders about road safety and personal safety.

PPEs. Do you have personal protective equipments. These include reflective clothes, jacket, glooves, noise mask, safety boots and helmet etc. Most times we tended to think you only need these equipments while working at sites, but l came to realise that one must own two or not all of these items. You dont know when you will need them, let it be part of items you add in your car or bag. They come in handy. I got used to having a reflective jacket that l would pack it first in my bag. Just as Salvation is a personal decision, so should your personal safety be. Think about your personal safety and it will be easy for you to help out others, it starts with you.

How knowledgeable are You about your CAR?

Steering wheel unlocking; One morning l was rushing for a meeting and l started the car only to realise the steering wheel was locked. I called my mechanic in panic, he said; insert the key into ignition, turn the key gently or wiggle the wheel as you apply varying pressure in one direction till you feel the lock begin to release, eventually l unlocked it. I felt like a champion unlocking it minus paying money. As l was discussing this incident with my friends, l realised many have paid money to mechanic for unlocking for them the steering.

Tailgating; Most drivers are found of doing this, driving too close behind another vehicle. This isnt a good practise while on road, especially if your brakes are not so good and predictions aren’t good. Always give some space this could help you save a serious accident.

Free wheeling; l know of friends who are graduates in freewheeling. Commonly known as “Kuba endobo” driving in Neutral, But have you ever thought of the brakes failing as you go down that slop. The fact that its economic isnt comparable to saving the life of another road user. It takes personal discipline to be a good driver on the road.

Tool box and Spare trye; when was the last time you checked if you have these items in your car? Atleast have the basics, wheel spanner, Jeck, Spanners 8mm,10mm,13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 18mm, Pair of pliers, an alien key, WD40, and Jumpers. If you dont have them, plan on buying them, buy decent tool not cheap. Once you buy cheap, you will buy twice. If you give the car to a mechanic, sometimes they interchange spanners if you are not careful, but if he knows you pay a little attention to your tool box he wont tamper with your tool box. Sometimes you get stuck on the road, yet what you need is to tighten a nut or after a function and your battery fails, yet all you need is a jumper and continue on the your journey. Take care of your car by checking and spending on the tool box.

Regular Checks:

  • Engine oil; Check on your Engine oil and coolant. Do this only when the engine is stone cold.
  • Service; Check on the kilometers you have covered and plan on your next service. It will save you from an engine knock.
  • Trye pressure; Always check on the pressure and have it filled and balanced. To avoid getting stuck in a place where you cant get access to pressure.
  • Windscreens and wipers; Check the windscreen fluid reservoir to see if it’s full or you need to fill it and ensure the wipes too are working well or plan to fix them.
  • Lights and indicators; Try out each light and ensure its working, if it’s not lighting then you will need to change the bulb.

Banging Noise; Be sensitive to noise that comes out of your car. This is always an indicator that something isnt right.

Knowing and doing these few basics will save you from some cash given to mechanics. The devil is hidden in the details.

Road safety starts with personal safety and discipline.

In 2015 Feb, a friend recommended me for a job at a Haulage and Logistics Company. I was later called in for interviews and l excelled. Was taken on to Head the department of HR and Adm. By the time l joined, the company owned 28trucks, 10small vehicles including pickups and 4motor cycles. In a period of two years the fleet had doubled and we were experiencing a high number of Road Incidents, Accidents and Fatalities.

The situation was getting out of hand and immediate action had to be taken. The MD called for a meeting and l was requested to switch and head the dept. Of Health and Safety and ensure we obtain zero accidents and incidents. Achieving this goal in road safety was critical for us to attain excellence.

With the team, we agreed on engaging drivers daily at the end of the trip and having weekly meeting at office and these meetings were referred to as Tool box talks. My duty was to ensure that drivers adhere to all road safety rules and abide with them. Tool box meetings were effective and we started registering zero incidents and accidents in less then 3months of engagement. We decided this to be part of our life style.

These tools are very simple, but very vital for all road users, let’s walk the talk;

Helments; Helment protects head injuries incase of an incident or accident. The impact one gets minus having it is so gross, endure the heat but have your head protected.

Mobile Phone; The temptation of replying text messages and being engaged with our phones while driving is so high. But this temptation isnt worthy leading you to the garage or ending another road users life because you were distracted. Kindly refrain from this evil, sometimes these messages aren’t urgent.

Buckle up; Fasten your seat belt and ensure the passengers you have in the vehicle have done the same. Most people buckle up upon seeing traffic officers. Refrain from such kind of behavior.

Obey Speed Limit. Most of us violate speed limits. However obeying and controlling your speed will avoid road accidents.

Slow down or Stop. All of us as road users must show due care and attention when you see a sign of road junctions, intersections, pedestrians crossing and road corners.

Your car is insured with third party or comprehensive insurance however your life isnt insured. Be responsible on the road and be respectful of other road users.

Safety has no quieting time!

I WILL ARISE

‘Each day counts

While growing up my mother would be the first person to wake up in the house. She would get up and ensure everyone is awake, give us guidelines for the day and she will go back to her bedroom.

When l joined higher education, she stopped waking me up. She had nurtured me and now it was time for my to arise by myself. With all honesty this was a hard paper.

The first instances weren’t easy but when l would hear he door move, l knew am in for trouble because l wasn’t supposed to be still sleeping at that time.

Till l mastered the art of waking up. I spoke to myself, that l must arise before mama comes for me. It wasnt easy because l was attached to her sweet words in the morning, drawing curtains for me and telling her about the dream world for the previous night. I was used to it, such sweet moments of mother and child.

However a time has to come in life when you have to get on your feet, come to yourself and command your body to alien and wake up. Waking up isnt enough, you must step out of bed that has been your comfort zone and get out in the cold weather where mama isnt thier to guide you anymore.

A time comes in life when you know, l have to arise, seasons come and go, in such moments you don’t need to engage a counselor, but the engagement has to be between you and self to pick up the mat, be responsible, own up your mistakes, clean up the mess, ask forgiveness, and move.

Pick up your mat and move. Don’t fear and listen to voices of limitations, walk past your fears and you will make it through to the other side.

Reflection Scripture:

Luke 15:11-17, Acts 12:11.

Growth is legit

In today’s world success is measured by academic test scores. Once your grades on that paper are low, one is labeled as a failure. This has affected many people and Limited them from advancing further.

However once the testscores or grades are low, thats not the end of the road, an example is Caterpillar that transforms itself into a butterfly.

This is one of the amazing process it goes through, in its nature a Caterpillar is slow and vulnerable to external predators. Its skin grows by shedding of the outside skin.

Change is a factor in growth

  • The change a Caterpillar goes through is at pupa stage to transform in a butterfly.

Your growth is hidden in the process, dont be limited by the opposing forces. Break the shells of the voices of limitations, peoples descriptions of who you are and plung into becoming a Butterfly.

Its is possible to shine past your grades. As far as your eyes can see it you can have it. Gen 13.15

Growth is Legit

Growth is the process of increasing in size an example is in plants. Growth in plants is reflected when they germinate out of the soil like in the image and its seen by everyone. Most times few people pay attention in the process of planting seeds, but once the seeds you planted start germinating, everyone will notice them. In the small garden near my home, children are restricted from passing in the garden, they follow the instructions to the detail when the seeds start sprouting out of the ground.

The results start start giving demarcations between a field with dead seeds and the ones growing about to flower and those ready for pruning.

I have purposed to take time to cultivate my fields, cultivate while others are thinking my life is boring, because l have changed routines and daily l follow through with my written check list. I am taking an initiative to grow in my Career, Ministry and Family.

And you who is reading this, you’re a champion too and together we can effect generations.

Growth happens to those with Life, dead things don’t germinate. Purpose to Live and declare it daily.

Psalm 118. 17 “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord”.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
